| 6-11 years CURRICULUM:
Our
"Vicious
Panda" sessions are for children who are 6-11 years
old, using an empty hand, non-weapon approach of the Chinese gung fu concepts...
This
class works through group participation, so we rely heavily on the
parents to bring their child to every class as required, as we need all
the students here so they can work out with each other and gain those
very important peer skills they need as they grow.
We limit each session to 20 students for the best all around workout experience possible for the kids so no one is left out. We
also have a minimum requirement of attendance of 10 kids participating
in each class to keep this class on the schedule for the SPRING and
SUMMER SESSIONS COMING SOON.
What is gung fu? Roughly translated, it is another name for kung fu, here is Wiki's online definition(s):
Kung fu or gongfu or gung fu (功夫, Pinyin: gōngfu) is a Chinese term often used by speakers of the English language to refer to Chinese martial arts. It's original meaning is somewhat different, referring to one's expertise in any skill, not necessarily martial. The Chinese literal equivalent of "Chinese martial art" would be 中國武術 zhōngguó wǔshù.
In its original meaning, kung fu can refer to any skill. Gōngfu (功夫) is a compound of two words, combining 功 (gōng) meaning "achievement" or "merit", and 夫
(fū) which translates into "man", so that a literal rendering would be
"human achievement". Its connotation is that of an accomplishment
arrived at by great effort.
Nowadays, we just refer to gung fu as we teach it to mean "Chinese Boxing Skill"... That
being said, we want your child to achieve in the skills we teach, so he
or she is ready for the street throughout life, so, if the need to
protect themselves or others ever comes about..
Nothing for the TMAA's STAFF and it's ASSOCIATES is more
important than to have childern learn the martial skills we teach here.
Even our own children learn important martial skill at home, as we feel
it is just as important to educate them in self defense skills as it is
to have them learn subjects at school, as their future depends on their
very SURVIVAL in life, too.
Gung fu skill is known for it's
straight forward practices of attacking and defense of the center line
of the body. With basic knowledge of this concept the student learns
that using one's strength alone, is not always the case, as he/she
learns that redirection of an opponent is just as important as "crashing
in". These attributes that the student will learn with us is a valuable
skill not always taught in sport karate schools where kata/forms and
competition is stressed over survival.
Remember, these sessions are geared for your child to learn basic martial skill, not sporty 'tap out',or fluff/puff forms.
There
are ALOT of Tae Kwon Do schools out there that are teaching the sporty
stuff, using the UFC/KARATE KID MOVIES as the draw... And why not?
Karate franchises are good at marketing it that way, and they spend a
lot of money selling it in advertising it like the class is a soccer or
baseball camp for fun with flashy gimmics. So, if you are looking for a
"belt factory" sport karate franchise so you can have your child keep up
with "The Jones's" and be part of the crowd, we surely can recommend
and have no problem pointing you to several great places we personally
trust here in Texomaland that can get your child started right away!
But, just remember... HERE at TMAA, we are teaching valuable martial skill. and for us- the CHILD COMES FIRST, not the payment plans, not the belts, not the gimmics...
Our "Vicious Pandas" leave our sessions understanding that what they learn here at Texoma is for their own good...
Here's more:
We believe it should not cost you an arm and a leg to learn how to use them! If
fact, we very much frown on the way karate franchises sell martial arts
practice like the other stuff they market and sell to get your
money.... Here at Texoma, we feel the child and adult alike are people wanting to learn valuable martial skills and they are
not treated as a consumer quota for a marketing franchise...
We
are a true training hall, we have NO special uniforms that you are
required to purchase nor do we hand out belts left and right, so there
are NO testing fees on top of more testing fees, on top of even more
testing fees!
Less costs for the student with more martial skills to learn.
We
do have a TMAA sash rank certificates for our Vicious Pandas that are
given out as they achieve accumulated hours here at TMAA, at NO COST.
Parents are required to attend, help supervise their children
&
are encouraged sometimes even to participate as
well!
SORRY.... We unfortunately CANNOT reserve enrollment space over the telephone, However, you can come in during our business
hours to register/pay upfront to enroll your child -or- You can do so here
online.

| | 12 to 15 year old's CURRICULUM:
OUR "DRAGONS" are the 12-15 year olds, primarily exploring Chinese
Gung Fu & for good measure, we add the basics of the various
Filipino Arts for their dynamic attributes. Off
the start, we train the kids the same empty hands that we teach the
Vicious Pandas, however, we introduce traditional archipelago basic
weaponry into the mix to teach the skills that are a big part of the
systems overall learning experience, which is great for our beginners up
through our intermediate students... WE ARE THE ONLY KWOON (training hall/school) IN TEXOMALAND THAT TEACHES THESE FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS TO KIDS...
We truly wish to train our TMAA kid's to be
prepared for the reality of life's conflicts they may face in the future.
Our
12- 15 year old kid's session is very informative and also a great
starting place for
kids who have never practiced martial arts before... For an added plus-
our curriculum is a good cross-training experience for those that have
trained in other martial
art skills like Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Tai Chi, Shodokan, etc...
We have NO belt ranking, so there is NO
testing fees as we are not a karate franchise that some like to call a
"McDojo", nor do we sell or market useless "karate" products as others
do in our area- We will not and do not treat our students as a consumer
to meet some quota set by some big karate franchise company plan....
We are an "old school" kwoon exploring, teaching and practicing self defensive combative skills.
As to what the student wears here at TMAA, they have NO need to purchase gi's or uniforms. We believe the
student should train in what they would normally wear at school, on the
streets or at home as this is what they would wear if they needed to
rely on their self-defense training at any given moment...
So, please come by TMAA today, our member list is growing and the training gets better with every new kiddo that comes along!
DON'T FORGET...
With our NO CONTRACT & A "PAY AS YOU COME" POLICY, We require only that you
pay our monthly membership fee the first week every month (per month, per kiddo) to continue training.
You can, if you wish, prepay for future months here online: (click here),
or just pay at the door as you come.
